Sun Island Resort
South Ari Atoll, Alifu Atoll View On Map
We have just returned from having a wonderful holiday on Sun Island. Yes, it's one of the biggest islands in the Maldives but few are as well appointed and/or looked after like this one. The grounds are beautifully kept with a bird sanctuary and orchid farm and lots of well cared for greenery. The accommodation is adequate, maybe the furniture is a little dated but its very functionable. The staff are very friendly if you engage with them.
The main object of this review is to highlight the food. It's all buffet type but you will not be disappointed with the quantity or quality. We were there for fourteen days and there was a different choice for main course every day, twice a day. I need a special Gluten Free diet and I cannot praise the kitchen staff too highly especially the Head Chef, Ali, who went out of his way every lunch and dinner to come our to the restaurant and advise me which dishes were Gluten Free and which ones were not. If there was nothing suitable or I didn't fancy what was suitable he would make me a special dish just for me, some days he would even anticipate my needs and prepare something special for me. Now, few five star hotels would go to that much trouble for one out of several hundreds of guests, but Ali did and with a smile. The kitchen staff and serving staff too became knowledgeable also to my needs and were ever helpful especially the pastry chef who specially pre-pared my desserts for every meal time.
We had a wonderful holiday and will return to Sun Island
