How do I even begin to describe this place? I guess I could describe it as a class A tourist trap, I mean how else would you describe a Viking themed restaurant complete with Reindeer heads, Viking hats, Viking boats, staff in themed costumes? However to say tourist trap certainly would not describe the demographic of its clientele. The vast majority of whom were local Finns, who seemed to relish getting back to their Viking routes by wearing Viking hats. In fact they acted like it was the most normal thing to do in the world! I kid you not. The major plus was the fact food was actually very good.
The menu was really well labelled. It was very clear to read what was suitable for a gluten free diet and what was suitable for those on a lactose free diet. A few things doubled. The only thing which didn't work was that none of their 'set' menus were entirely gluten free or lactose free so if you were planning on doing that you would have choose directly from the menu or just ask if they were willing to adapt.
Being the adventurous type (food wise at least) I opted to try the reindeer while MrG decided to play it say with a steak. The food was really good and of course tasted all the better knowing that I was in safe hands. Of course I said yes to dessert and it was amazing. A very rich chocolate cake with raspberry sauce. MrG opted for a Viking themed ice cream something about tar. Anyway I smelt it and decided to pass. He said it was a bit like eating a road, but it was tar ice cream so what did he expect?!
