Malta may only be a small island in the Mediterranean but it has a lot of history and a steady flow of tourists visiting. With English an official language on the island you would hope gluten free wouldn't be too hard but hopefully you can find some pointers here first.

Good local fare including fresh fish and meats, very good awareness of gluten free requirements. Worth a visit for a special occasion. Lovely service. Worth booking a table at busy times.

Solana Hotel

I was welcomed with great friendliness. I am recalling the Room Division Manager - Mr Agius - who was of great help and support - mostly becuase my wife is a celiac and he made sure that all the food served was gluten free. For us this has always been an issue while visting other hotels. At Solana Hotel this special diet was as normal as being at our own home. To top up things the room had an exceptional view of the Parish Street. The food was exceptional and the service with a consistent smile all through out our stay. I highly recommend this hotel to all those who would like to have a real get away from their daily routine. I would definetly visit again this hotel. Also for those who like shopping - this Hotel is very close to a lot of interesting outlets and restaurants.

If you're looking for a good Italian meal - pizza, pasta, salads, bruschetta etc ... this is a great place to go. Open late (we got a meal at 11pm on a Tuesday in February!), with friendly staff and reasonably quick service, even on Saturday night when it was crammed full of locals (always a good sign). We ate there twice, and both meals were equally good, as was the wine - a reasonable range of local and foreign wines.

My wife is coeliac, so was delighted to find a restaurant that serves gluten free pizza and pasta!

A simple and unpretentious-looking restaurant, serving exceptionally good, fresh fish, beautifully prepared. The starter I had (fish tartare - to my shame I can't remember the exact name) - was exquisite, and the rest of the meal was equally good. My wife is coeliac, so it was a delight to find that they really understood about gluten free food. They would even have had a gluten free dessert available - if we'd been able to fit in a dessert! Local wine was subtle and interesting too - so much so that we tracked it down and brought a couple of bottles home - and reasonably priced. We were served by the restauratrice, Vivian, who is absolutely passionate about fishing ... and the iniquities of the EU fishing quota system. She made us most welcome, and we shared our opinions about the EU!

We visited here twice - and had great meals on both occasions. I need to eat gluten-free and had pasta and garlic bread on both visits - they do gluten-free pizza sometimes too. On our first visit the atmosphere was excellent -trendy, good music and relaxed - but on the second visit we had to sit through Tottenham v. Inter Milan - my husband would have enjoyed it if I hand't moaned so much! The gluten-free garlic brad with cheese is to die for!
