Sabores do Churrasco
, Chain View On Map
Seems to be a chain, but it has a twist on buffet dining. There is a salad bar with various fresh items (beware the obvious non gf stuff pasta salad, banana fritters etc). There are also hot items (the rice and the black beans are ok although they don't guarantee the chips). The meats come on skewers which are carved at the table for you and all are gluten free even the sausages!! Eat as much as they are prepared to give you then the best comes near the end of the meal. Barbecued pineapple covered in cinnamon!!! Delicious!! There are various selections of menu which restrict the meats you are entitled to but all include the salad bar. Not sure about the desserts. Didn't have room!!

Fine dining with use of locally sourced seasonal ingredients. Very good gluten free awareness. A restaurant for a special occasion.

Off the beaten track, but worth a visit. Well aware of gluten free requirements. Nice gf bread and separately cooked chips as a treat. Excellent selection of desserts too.

Senhor Frogs
Albufeira, Algarve View On Map
Before taking off, I had a super quick Google of 'gluten free Albufeira' and to my delight a restaurant called Senhor Frogs popped up on Trip Advisor, saying they did gluten free pizzas!! Well, of course we had barely landed and I was already trying to figure out where it was! Luckily for us, our hotel was located on the beach in Albufeira, a 5-10 minute walk from either Old Town or The Strip - where Senhor Frogs was located!

Luckily, I had read on the review that if you want a GF pizza, you have to order it earlier in the day so they can prepare the dough - so we stopped by at lunchtime to make our order for dinner. I was really pleased to see the signs outside clearly advertising the fact they did gluten free pasta, and I went to speak to the waiter who was very nice and told me my pizza dough would be awaiting me at 7pm that night! That night I was excited to choose my pizza from their vast range - a little over priced for Albufeira (I think mine cost me around 16 Euros) but I chose one with pepperoni, ham, peppers, mushrooms and olive. When it got placed in front of me I was so excited - it was huge and stuffed with toppings, I couldn't wait to get stuck in! I was really impressed by the base - it was quite a thick base but really light and unlike any I have had before - it was so tasty. The best thing about Senhor Frogs was that when I couldn't finish the whole thing, they even let me take it home and they told me they would put it in a different box to my friend's leftovers, so it wouldn't get contaminted. Brownie points for them!

The English Kitchen
Albufeira, Algarve View On Map
First time visit to Albufeira and was concerned about eating out as I am a coeliac. Read reviews on English Kitchen before going away. Great place, Sue and Doreen were always bright and cheerful and extremely helpful and understanding of my dietary requirements. I had a beautiful meal every night and Steve made my chips in a separate pan for me. I would highly recommend this venue for anyone who cannot eat gluten or wheat. Thank you all so much for making my holiday so enjoyable and safe to eat.

Quinta dos Poetas
Olhao, Algarve View On Map
From the first email till the day we left the communication with Margarida, Rosario and all the other members of their family and staff was great. I am a Coeliac and they went out of their way to make sure I had an equal enjoyable breakfast as the rest of their guests. At the end of our stay I was presented with a bag full of leftover cakes, bread and muesli, which was such a help as we had to stop at restaurants and hotels on our way back in our hired car to Madrid. Their restaurant on the other side of their beautiful gardens (including a golf course) was also superb and we enjoyed several lunches and dinners there. Many other guests used their hotel as a base during a cycle holiday and had day trips around the beautiful area of Algarve. I would love to return for another holiday, but we live in Australia so it might not happen, but we treasure the experience.

Pestana Casino Park Hotel
Funchal, Madeira View On Map
We took a last minute deal and were delighted with our choice. My wife suffers from coeliac disease and therefore requires gluten free meals. We went half board and the chef was happy to prepare a suitable alternative. The hotel facilities are excellent and it is within easy reach of the town. It seemed strange in such a good hotel to have to hire a kettle for the week--not expensive Euro4, but a bit odd.

We were very happy with our stay and would definitely stay there again. Free internet in room, hotel supplied the necessary cable.

Chiado 16
Historic Centre, Lisbon View On Map
My wife and I stayed here for two nights and enjoyed the experience thoroughly. The apartment rooms are very spacious, clean and comfortable. As others have mentioned, the breakfast, delivered to your door, is excellent. My wife is a coeliac, and they had gone to the trouble of getting in some gluten free food, even though we had said we would bring her own bread. All the staff are very friendly and extremely helpful - can't praise them enough on that front. We stayed in the top floor apartment, so had a great view over the city.

The location is excellent - most things in central Lisbon within reasonable walking distance and the 28 tram passes outside. It's pretty hilly though, so you need to be reasonably fit if you want to walk around. All in all thoroughly recommended.
